Organic spelt berries are wonderful grains that are high in protein. Spelt contains 15 - 21% protein which is much higher than wheat. It’s also higher than wheat in complex carbohydrates, iron, potassium and the B Vitamins.
Spelt berries can be used in place of wheat berries, rice and other whole grains in your recipes. With a chewy texture and sweet, nutlike flavour, spelt berries are delicious as a hot cereal, soups or salads.
To cook: Bring 3 parts water and 1 part spelt berries to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for about 45 minutes. Speed up cooking by pre-soaking for a few hours.
